The Piano-Show and Tell Friday

Kelli at There's No Place Like Home is hosting Show and Tell Fridays.
I would like to share with you my antique oak piano. I've had this piano since the early seventies. My aunt Gloria, who reads my blog, helped get it for us. She used to be an antique dealer and went to lots of auctions. The funny thing is...she doesn't remember getting us the piano! I don't know how you could forget this!

It has not been refinished, and is a darker oak. I recently moved it from our living area to the foyer area. It is a tight squeeze ....I really need about 6 more inches! This is a view from the staircase.

Here's another view from the front. You can see how close it is to the front door. I don't play the piano very much...only when I'm here by myself. I'm not that talented! LOL
The piano didn't have a bench, so I've been looking for one. The one in the picture is from Booker's Antiques in a place called Whynot, MS. His shop is very crowded has lots of stuff including snakes. When I bought the bench I made him bring it out and look inside...didn't want to get home and find a snake curled up in there!

I'm sure my grandmother had something to do with me getting this piano. She thought everyone should have one in their home. I have a feeling she kept mentioning it until my aunt found one for me!
My kids think I should sell it since I don't play it and there's really not that much room for it, but so far I can't do it. I wish I could create about another half a foot in the width of the foyer!
Thanks for stopping by!

Diane, I agree with your grandmother ... there's just nothing like having a piano in your home, and yours is beautiful. Are you sure there's not somewhere you can put it?

That is beautiful and it looks gorgeous even with the tight squeeze. I had a handed down piano when we were first married and we moved it several times across different states....we finally ended up selling it.

Diane, your piano is beautiful, of course, I love the antiqueness ( that may not be a word, but I like it) of it all. The things you have displayed on the top look wonderful. You have a decorator's eye. I'm serious, everything you post about your home is shown beautifully. Don't get rid of it, as it means something to you. I like your story about it.

Have a happy day.

take care,

That is a beautiful piano girl..It just adds so much to a place even if you don't play it..hey I got my dad's old coon hunting horn hanging on the wall and I can't blow that thing for nothing...like to have herniated myself trying once! lol But I wouldn't take it off the wall for nothing! Sometimes it not the fact that we actually use a certain thing it is the memories or sentiment it gives to us...have a great day girl!

Your piano is beautiful, and I'm so glad you were able to leave the snakes behind! LOL!

I read your post below too! People say things and don't even know or understand what they are talking about! Maybe this was one of those cases! LOL! I get comments from family members at times like this too! But then, many of them read my blog and enjoy it! So go figure! LOL! I probably blog way too much...but I so enjoy it and it is an outlet for me! I replace my TV time with it. But it helps me in positive ways. For one, the relationships I have formed with other bloggers, such as you, and become invaluable & treasured friendships! We laugh, we cry, we even pray together! And I get a lot of projects started and finished, so that I can share them. And I get ideas for new ones! I hope you will stick with and do what is right for you. ..or you could have a lot of time of your hands, instead of blogging...and be negative and insensitive like that poor soul! LOLOL!

I love your blog, and appreciate your friendship even more!
Hugs, Rhonda :)

I think pianos and fireplaces are required accoutrement for a warm feeling home -- use of both is optional.

The detail of the wood is beautiful! I think it's a keeper! I didn't quite understand; are you still looking for another bench? Cause I was thinking that one would look great if you added batting to cushion the top, and then stapled pretty fabric to match your room underneath, as I did my chairs last weekend. Just a thought!

It's gorgeous! I love hearing piano music. My daughter plays and it's the most soothing sound.

Have a great weekend!

Hi,
I like your piano, and even if it's in a tight spot, you use it. Furthermore, it adds to helping you remember your loved ones.

Keep it!

I've always wanted to learn to play the piano and this one is beautiful. My son learned to play on a keyboard we purchased and I've always wanted to buy a piano since he caught on so quickly. He actually outpaced a couple of teachers and they referred him to the University to continue learning to play. It started to hold him back though that we didn't have a full keyboard so he kind of let it go since we couldn't afford a piano. Maybe someday! You're so fortunate to have a beautiful one! Maybe I'll be like my dad's second wife (after mom died). She learned to play the organ in her 70s! I admire that.

It's a pretty piece of furniture. I let my daughter take ours and I haven't missed it. It was hard at first since both girls learned to play on it but it wasn't being used here.

Diane, it is beautiful. I see why you don't want to let it go.

My Kiddo is in his second year of piano and we have to make do with a smaller keyboard. I would LOVE a piano like that! When I was little we had a beautiful antique piano that was passed around our house, my grandparents' house, and finally my aunt's house. Yours reminds me of it.
