A Free Arrangement (Almost)!

When browsing through blogs the other day, I noticed that Melissa from The Inspired Room used canning jars to make arrangements for fall. I really liked the casual, informal look she created with the jars.

I decided to 'shop' my cabinets and see if I had any and I ran across this wire container and milk jug looking containers I hadn't used in years.

My original plan was to buy some fresh flowers in fall colors to put in the vases, but I saw somewhere (sorry I can't remember-probably on someone's blog) a suggestion for using Nandina berries in fall arrangements. I have Nandina shrubs, but the berries aren't ready yet.

So when visiting my mom on Sunday, we went in the back yard and checked out her Pyracanthia shrubs. They were loaded with these reddish orange berries! So I cut a few and used them in my fall arrangement.

The arrangement was almost free! I already had all the materials on hand except the mini Tiger Pumpkins I bought from Walmart, and they had been purchased a few days before. The only cost occured at the time would be the gas to drive to Mom's house, and I would have visited her anyway!

I really liked the way the arrangement turned out.
Thanks Mama!

Hope you have a great day, and thanks for stopping by!

Love your arangement. I know all to well about those shrubs. My parents had them at their home when I was younger. There were about 5 down the front of the house close to the road. Well I get on my bike to go across the street and those darn bushes were so big I did not see the car coming and bang I got hit and broke my leg. So I know all to well about those bushes. Even though I got hurt they do make some pretty fall foilage. Love your decor!

Beautiful arrangement! I love using Nandina, and anything else I have on hand as fillers to add a little punch to my arrangements. I love fall berries, but none are red yet, here.

Ah, you put me to shame. How spectacular that is. You even put the perfect placemat underneath to ground it too.

Oh, Diane, this turned out so pretty. I may have to copy-cat (don't have milk bottles but plenty of canning jars). I guess these bushes with berries will have to be our southern bittersweet!

Oh, Diane... these are beautiful! What a great idea, and the colors are perfect for fall. My mother had a large pyracantha in her yard and loved to decorate with them. This reminds me so much of her. Thanks for sharing.

I'm doing so much better today, Diane...thanks!!!

From what I'm able to get from the different news sources, helicopter tours of the area and a new on-foot tour of the IKE damage in Galveston...from the seawall to at least Broadway...there is severe water damage. Most buildings are still standing and have suffered little structural damage...but SEVERE water damage just seems to have devastated the buildings and homes in Shelia's area. There still is no electricity or phone service in most of the area.

I don't know if Shelia has a cell phone...only have her land-line phone #.

Hopefully, we'll hear from her soon.

Jan

Beautiful arrangement, Diane ... I love its simplicity and the colors are gorgeous. The old-fashioned looking jars and olive green placemat were nice touches.

You just can't beat natural materials in arrangements and there's an abundance of them available in the fall.

Diane it looks great. I have bittersweet that that doesn't have berries yet. I can't decide if I want to cut them out of my rose bushes or wait until later in the fall to see if they will produce berries.

You did great for a free arrangement. Those are the best kind!

take care,
Dawn

Very cute! I love those milk bottles. Hmmm, I think the vacant house next door has some of those bushes in the back yard, I may just have to "borrow" a few berries from them!

Hello again Diane!

I officially caught up with your blog as I read all the posts between this and the last post to make sure I didn't miss anyhting. You always have good ideas and I'm soooo jealous of all the good buys you find at yard sales --no one ever has 5 cent prices on anything around here :-(

Love all your pumpkin and fall decor -- I have to catch up on that too!

Hugs, Pat
