Christmas Sayings & Memories

In my comments, Pat from Brooklyn mentioned digging out old decorations and how they have memories attached to them. Her comment gave me the idea to show you some Christmas sayings I have displayed and tell you about the memories attached with them.

This first ornament used to hang on my tree a few years ago with lots of other bear ornaments. The tree featured a lot of red plaid and cross stitch ornaments. I still have them, but this one usually gets pulled out and displayed-this year on my desk. Someone posted an acronym for the meaning of JOY: Jesus, Others, and You. (Sorry I can't remember who's blog it was) I really liked that!

This is another cross stitch that I did years ago when I was completing cross stitch projects coming and going! This one is above the barrister book case. I know I've had it quite a few years, and can't remember where it was hung in my other house. I thought about putting it somewhere else this year just to change things around, but couldn't find anywhere else that I liked it!
This one is a ceramic ornament that I usually display either in a wreath or in front of greenery. I've always loved this saying. On the back, the student who gave this to me signed his name along with 'Merry Christmas.' This decoration and so many others I have remind me of the students that gave them to me. I taught this little boy, and years earlier I taught his dad!
What is your favorite Christmas saying?

Have a great day, and thanks for coming by.

I love your cross stictch! I especially like the merry Christmas sign. I love looking back on ornaments I've gotten from students in the past :)

I don't know if I have a favorite Christmas saying. I think I love them all.

I do have a quote from my favorite movie, It's a Wonderful Life "Teacher says, every time a bell rings an angel get her wings".

I just love this time of year.

take care,
Dawn

Good Morning, Diane! I hadn't heard the acronym for JOY, but that was really neat, so I thank you for sharing it! I love your Cross-stitch piece! The alternating colored letters are a beautiful touch! You did a great job on it! ~Rhonda :)

Diane your cross stitch is lovely. I went through a period of that but have not done it for a few years. I love the Merry Christmas saying. I was just thinking about the word 'xmas'. I never liked it or used it and now you hardly ever see it anymore thankfully. I love the word peace and wish it could happen.

Sorry you didn't win, come back for more.

Hugs...Jeanne

Found you through the Inspired Room. I love seeing your Christmas cross stitching. My great-grandmother used to make cross stitched ornaments for our family every year until she passed away four years ago. It's still incredibly special to pull out her ornaments and put them on the tree! Thanks for sharing your obvious talent with us.

I have a little thingy that contains sayings for every day of the year. For December 1st, it has one of my favorite Christmas-time sayings: "Santa Claus never died for anyone."

I love your counted cross stitch. I used to do that too, when my eyesight was a tad better.

Diane, I want your cross stitches! Oh, that angel! I love it so much!

My aunt used to have the Isaiah scripture in cross stitch, and that would have to be my favorite saying. One year when we were newly married, I was having a Christmas party with the entire house open (we had restored our first home, and we've been living in boxes and bags for so long, people were naturally curious), so I decorated for Christmas to the hilt as far as my young married funds would carry me (supplemented by Mama). I made some little pillows out of scrap fabric, and on each one I would cut out fabric letters and use fabric glue to adhere them to various pieces of other scraps I made into the pillows. Each pillow would have one of the verses and or descriptions. For unto us... A child is born... Unto us... A son is given. And the government... shall be upon his shoulder... and his name shall be called... Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Unfortunately, they were lost in a move, but I still remember them well. I have a lot of little signs around, and they have silly sayings on them to make people laugh. But I've taken up too much space, and I'm getting into one of my posts, too! LOL!

I love your "merry and bright" one, and I particularly love the fact that it was a gift from a student whose dad you also taught.

XO,

Sheila

Oh girl I love the cross stitching! I use to do it years ago and even have some ornaments I did back in the 80's...I have so many different christmas things that hold so many memories for me...I cry & laugh each year when I get them all out! Funny how a single object can transport us back in time! lol Have a great day sweetie!

Hi Diane,

Love all your neat decorations and the stories behind each of them. Personally, my favorite Christmas saying is simply, "Merry Christmas". I get so tired of seeing and hearing "Happy Holidays" all the time, that it's very refreshing to actually hear and see the words, "Merry Christmas".

I love your cross stitch signs, Diane ... and the ceramic sign, too.

One thing I love about Christmas is using old ornaments and decorations that have special meaning and remind you of Christmases Past.

I think the one that always stops me is... Angels we have heard on high. I just get this picture of all the angels with long flowing white robes and gold trumpets announcing the birth of our Saviour, Jesus and it just gives me a thrill.
