2nd Time Around Tuesday: Antique Secretary

Welcome to 2nd Time Around on Tuesday! If you love antiques, flea markets, garage sales, thrift stores and estate sales you are in the right place! Just create a post with something that is 'new to you' but not new, and link to Mr. Linky below.

About the time we moved into the house we are in now, I found the most wonderful antique store in a small town not too far from here. I started buying furniture from the owner, and after a purchase or two, she learned my taste and began to give me a call when she had something she thought I might like. Not only that, but she would let me put the purchase on 'lay-a-way' and most of the time I could go ahead and take it home with me! Guess I had established myself as a trustworthy customer! This cherry secretary was one of the purchases I made from this store.

It fits in beautifully in our bedroom and provides a place to store books, pictures, etc. in the top, and has three handy drawers at the bottom. You can also use it as a writing desk by lowering the front of the secretary. It has lots of little compartments and some tiny drawers. (The spot is something in the photograph...don't know how that happened!
)
I really love the classic design of antique furniture and wish I had started collecting it earlier!

Thanks for stopping by today! I look forward to visiting you!

OH MY - I think the secretary that I linked to is YOUR EXACT ONE!! I got mine at a yard sale. Go check it out. Mine is just missing the sliding piece. Is that a small world or what. :)

Hi Diane, It is a great find. I would so happy to be close to any type of antique store. I miss them dearly. That is price I pay to live in the middle of no where.

Beautiful piece of furniture! I think I have a desk that is just like the base of that piece. Is it two pieces? If so...I'm going to be on the look out for that top piece for mine lol.

Good morning Diane. Your secretary is gorgeous. What a great thing that you developed a relationship with the antique store. My sisters have been in the antique business for over 20 years and their following is huge. They have made lifelong friends in their business. I too love antique furniture. The quality is wonderful and the charm of the pieces is the attraction.

Have a great day.

Hugs...Jeanne

This is the style furniture my mama loved, so it says "home" to me.

That nasty dot on the picture does that to me too. I even have it when I take pictures with my new camera! I sure wish I knew why!

That's a very nice secretary. I really like the shelves with the doors. My grandmother had an old desk and when it is opened up it is also full of lots of compartments! I have it down in my basement. It belongs to my sister now and she has no place for it.

It sounds like you established a nice relationship with the antique dealer. ☺

take care,
Dawn

I have one exactly like that but it's not in the best condition so it's collecting dust in my basement. I must do something with it.

That is a beautiful secretary! You are a lucky person to have an antique dealer call you and put it on payments!

Your secretary is beautiful Diane. I almost linked my secretary post, here, too!

Richard C. said I could do layaway! That's nice to know for future purchases. I love that you have yours in your bedroom, too. We are enjoying ours!

My grandmothers secretary looked just like that! I always loved looking at the "pretties" as she would call them inside behind the glass doors. She had this sugar egg, I'll never forget it, made of sugar, with little bunnies and such inside..Thanks for the trip down memory lane!!

I love the pottery with flowers, I have a teapot which belonged to my mom with that pattern and style..do you know what the name or type of it is called?

The secretary is beautiful! I also LOVE the classic design & details of antiques. I posted a vintage writing desk. I think it had a hinged door at one point, which hid the desk organizer, but now it's missing. Thanks for hosting!

Diane,
This is a fabulous find! I love all the details and the cherry wood is beautiful.
I am glad you have found such a good friend who will watch out for special items for you at the antique store.:)

Thanks again for hosting this event each week!

Diane,
We have one of those!!!!

It is one of the few things we have from my husband's grandmother, and we cherish it.

Ours has sen better days, and has some flaws, but it is of no matter. It is a keepsake to us.

Glad you found one, (all those compartments inside are so handy).
Right now i have ours at the little gift shop i opened in May.
It is great for display.

Blessings as you enjoy it.

Phew!! Just pulled a post together during my (late) lunch break! Can't wait to visit others later tonight!

I love your secretary and have one similar (it made a minor appearance in my recent post about a frame I picked out of someone's garbage. :-) I love it because it is small enough to really go in any room...it's been a dresser, a desk and a bar. I bought it at a street flea market in NYC about 10 years ago and I loooovvvveee it. I'm glad to see someone else in love with theirs! :-)

Funny, I have the same secretary and until recently when I started seeing other online with them. One blogger said that they were mass produced and quite a few people have them. Mine belonged to my great grandmother and its a treasure but it isn't in nearly as good a condition as yours. I plan to paint it this spring.

That is not just beautiful, it is so classy. I've always like the look of classic pieces; I'd rather have antique than new any day of the week!
