Soul Food in New York City

Gollum of Designs by Gollum is hosting Foodie Friday. Be sure to visit her for lots of food related inspiration.

Recently while visiting in New York City, we found a new restaurant in Brooklyn that we really enjoyed. It is called The Soul Spot and is at 303 Atlantic Avenue near the antique shopping area.

The owner was so nice, and told us he learned to cook from his brother who lives in Memphis which is really close to Mississippi!IMG_0150

Janet ordered meatloaf, candied yams, corn and cornbread. I had salmon croquettes, macaroni and cheese and green beans. The portions were very generous as you can see from this picture, and the food was delicious!

There were awards all over the place including this “ Soul Spot” award.

We told my son who is living in NYC now about it, and he tried it out. It is not too far from the subway stop and pretty easy to find.

I hope if you are ever in New York City and have a chance to go there you will try this restaurant. The website is http://www.thesoulspot.com/. You can get directions, a menu and prices online. You will love the food!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Some people call Memphis the unofficial capitol of MS :)! I bet those NYC'ers go crazy over this (not to mention displaced southerners)!

Wow, Diane ... You'd think you were in Mississippi judging by those sweet potatoes and meat loaf. When your son gets homesick, he can just go to the Soul Spot and feel like he's home.

I love the picture of Connor and Cooper ... isn't Smile Box fun!

I know the exact area you were in -my sister doesn't live too far from there. I'll have to see if she's been there and will recommend it if she hasn't! Looks like great food!
