2nd Time Around: Aggressive Garage Sale Shoppers!

Jackson 005

Welcome to 2nd Time Around. Please join us by linking a post that features something that is a 2nd Time Around to you…something from a garage sale, flea market, thrift store, estate sale, etc. Please link your post rather than your blog, and link back to this blog. Thank you for participating.

This past weekend, we had beautiful sunny weather and along with that comes lots of garage sales! It seems like the first of the month is a popular weekend for sales, and there were plenty! Even though I’m buying lots for my booth, I still look for things to keep!

This canister is one of the items I bought this week that I think I’ll keep. Actually it was part of a set. You see, this other shopper grabbed up the other two as I picked up this one, even though I got there first and had just asked the lady how much for the set. My son was with me, and said “That’s part of the set, you’re not going to break it up are you?” And I told him, yes I am unless she lets me have the other two since I was trying to gather them up to pay for them. I know this sounds silly, but lesson learned, get your items quickly and put them together up near the checkout, you never know how aggressive the other shoppers will be! LOL

Anyway, I’m happy with this one red canister….I think it will be lovely at Christmas!

Later, at another sale, I ran into a lady that has a booth at one of the antique malls that I have my booth. She was leaving with a gorgeous tiger oak chair that I would love to have had! If I had been there just 5 minutes earlier, I would have bought it. Since then I noticed that she had the chair in her booth priced at $285! I have no idea what she paid for it-but I bet it was nowhere near that! Should be interesting to see if it sells quickly!

So, what about you? Have you ever almost got a bargain? I would love to hear your stories!

Yes, I just almost got a bargain on Ebay but someone had way outbid me at the end of the sale. Oh, well on with the hunt!
I am so sorry Diane my post says "Irish Tea" on the end. If you are able could you just leave it at my name and site name. I must have been so distracted about my Ebay mishaps that I wasn't reading that carefully enough! LOL

Oh, that's too bad about that pushy lady. Its so gorgeous. I hope you find matching ones at later sales.

Gorgeous canister! So elegant!
I've learned to grab things if it grabs my eye, to look at it while "holding" it in MY hand. Some people are so inconsiderate.
Glad you hung onto yours.

Yes, it can get dirty down in the trenches. I've seen some aggresive people too, but fortunately most are nice. Nice find. It will look lovely at Christmas time.

Maybe on the way home the other lady had to slam on her brakes and her two broke. :)

I cannot think of one particular time I have missed out on something, but have you ever noticed the people in line at the thrift store, or waking away from a garage or estate sale, always have the stuff you wanted??
=))
Oh, if i had only been a few minutes sooner.

Thanks for hosting

Way back in the day I was in TJ Maxx and they had a pair of Doc Marten (SP) shoes for half of what they were in the department stores. I had one of them on my foot and a gal snagged the other one up. I seriously had one on my foot! We had to get the manager involved - it was crazy! I finally walked away and let her have them. Crazy folks out there! I hadn't thought of that in years - thanks for jogging the memory!

Good morning Diane. I am still on a bloggy break but reposted today. I wanted to take a minute today to say hello before I get busy with my projects.

Your story is not a surprise. I have had that happen to me too. I wanted to buy a coffee table at a thrift store and while I was getting someone to help me a lady bought it. I offered to pay her more but nope. It had carved art of squirrels and acorns and I still want the coffee table. HA!

I do love the canister very much. I would have bought the set in a heartbeat. The owners should not have let that lady buy the other two. Lesson learned the hard way.

I'll be blogging again in a couple of says.

Have a wonderful day.
Hugs, Jeanne

Were they price separately? I'm surprised if they were a set the lady at the register didn't refuse to sell them separately. I know in our little thrift store they are quick to say that is a set, we can't sell them piece by piece. Oh, that would have just made me sick, if you had one in your hand, the other lady was very rude. But I have had that happen to me, we reached for the same item and she grabbed it first, AFTER I asked how much and the lady told me...bad part about it she wasn't even looking at it till she heard me ask for a price...Grrrrr.
I love the one you did get. Hopefully you will find some more just like it.

Hi Diane

I love the reindeer canister! It is so pretty and unique. Sorry you lost the other two canisters and the chair..I guess agressiveness, and no hesitation, is a good qaulity when thrift shopping. I always take a long time to make a decision so I'd be out of luck!

I'm glad your mom reads my blog ..that is really sweet.

I'm heades out to see my grandson in a few days ..I can't wait!

Diane, that's a neat cannister, and I can't believe that woman stole the other, too! What nerve! I don't know if I would have been as polite as you about it.

XO,

Sheila

I love that canister...it kills me to hear what that lady did at that yard sale, because I've been in the same predicament...I've had to learn to be aggresive with people like that over the years, even though it's not my nature to do so...I hope you get the "prize" first mext time! :)
