2nd Time Around: Auction Regrets!

Jackson 005

Welcome to 2nd Time Around. Please join us by linking a post that features something that is a 2nd Time Around to you…something from a garage sale, flea market, thrift store, estate sale, etc. Please link your post rather than your blog, and link back to this blog. Thank you for participating.

I never have liked auctions too much…it is hard for me to sit all day and wait til something I like comes up for bid. Recently I went to one and got a little carried away! I have always wanted a hall tree, and when this one came up for bid, I managed to ‘win’ it! The only problem is that when I got home with the piece, I wasn’t sure at all that I liked it. So, I’m going to keep looking for one I like better! This one will probably end up in one of my booths, and I doubt very seriously that I’ll make much money on it if any! It is pretty in it’s own way, and the price was right, but it’s just not the one!

So, lesson learned for me-auctions are not my ‘cup of tea’! I would rather pay a little more and buy something from an antique store when I have time to really mull over the purchase. Auctions are too much pressure!

So, what about you? Do you buy at auctions? Do you think you get great buys?

Auctions are so enjoyable ... & yes, we do get great buys but we are cautious shoppers knowing a bargain.

Hope you had a wonderful & joyful Easter.

Have a beautiful week.

Sometimes I have gotten good buys at an auction. Usually when the thing I want is at the end and everyones interest has waned and they have left. That makes for some bargains. Pretty hall tree. I hope it can find a good home.

I've never been to an auction, Diane, but I think it'd be fun. I'd like to take an expert like you, though so that I don't "get carried away."

I've done that same thing at auctions...I've only been to a couple of live auctions and both times I bid on something and later regretted it. But, I must say I do think your hall tree is lovely...I'll gladly accept it when you find another! lol Please come visit me...I'm having a $100 giveaway. Thanks for hosting this weekly party!

THank you for the party this week!!

I do like auctions but I have to be very careful at them. One time I bid on some pretty plates - I think it ended at $5.00. I thought I had a great deal till I went to pay and they had priced them individually at 5 a piece!!! Learned my lesson on that one!

I think it's pretty nice! I am a little scared of auctions -- always afraid if I breathe, I have bought something I didn't want! Maybe I need a mentor...
Thanks for hosting the party. My plates are second (or third) time around for me. I bought them new, but they have been put away for long periods, so I thought maybe they qualify!

I go to an antique auction here in town every month and I love it! I do admit to going in and checking out the merchandise that's going to be sold first though. But there's always last minute pieces that are added.. I have only bought one item that I regret and it wasnt a huge purchase.. I have gotten some great deals there so I will just keep on going back :)

Dear Diane, I happen to Love that hall tree as it looks very much like mine. I have seen really beautiful ones but the price is too high. Mine is English and I bet this one is too. Yours has a prettier top but mine has some decorative tiles below the mirror. It is sooo handy in the winter as we really use it for our coats and umbrellas. Maybe it will grow on you. Auctions are a test of patience but I still like to go.

Diane I am happy to hear from you anytime. There is no way I can visit like I used to either. There is a life beyond blogging. You are my blogging friend and never worry about how often you visit. I totally understand. I shared a small part of my bird collection today. It is good to be back.

Hugs, your friend, Jeanne

I love auctions, but I get nervous when I'm bidding and have been known to bid against myself on a couple of occasions, which is so embarrassing ... lol

I love your hall tree!

there is that regret and the regret of something you see and want and it gets by ya. lol

It is gorgeous. I think our homes are just not big and grande enough for these treasures. You would freak out, Diane...if you saw my in-laws furniture all thru their Plantation home!! Hall tree and all.

I'll join a 2nd time Tue this summer when I'm there and show.

I got in a bidding war and just 'had to win' so I ended up with something that I paid way too much for. A big lesson learned!

I don't go to auctions much anymore.

Stop by and enter my giveaway!

I like auctions. except when I go to an auction see a classic 1957 chevy pedal car and some jerk has decided he wants it so bad he will spend any amount to get it. So I keep increasing my bid... heh heh heh.

Hi Diane!

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Easter!

I've been to auctions but I never bid --I just watched others bid..lol

This hall tree is nice and I bet you'll get a good price for it if you decide to sell it.

We used to go to auctions just about every weekend. I don't like them as much as regular "shopping", because I tend to get caught up in the moment and sometimes regret spending more than I intended!

The hall tree is nice. I would have bid on it, too...although, I have no idea what I would do with it!

Hi Diane! I like the hall tree, it
is pretty. And yes, I bid at auctions. The MS Magnolia Southern Belles are having a get together on June 5th. I am hoping you can join us. Please come by my blog and read more about it. Thanks.....Christine

Hi Diane, Just stopped by to say hello. I will be joining in on your meme tomorrow. We went to a big flea market sale on sat. I found some pretty neat stuff.

See you tomorrow.

Sometimes I get so absorbed in winning that I forget what I'm actually bidding for :)
