2nd Time Around: A Birdhouse and Some Fond Memories

Jackson 005

Welcome to 2nd Time Around. Please join us by linking a post that features something that is a 2nd Time Around to you…something from a garage sale, flea market, thrift store, estate sale, etc. Please link your post rather than your blog, and link back to this blog. Thank you for participating.

I mentioned in a couple of 2nd Time Around posts how much fun it was to travel along Highway 11/80 to the Antique Alley sales in May. But a couple of weeks before that I had a great time in Chunky, Ms. with a flea market friend attending about 30 community sales in a small area! I love it when communities and neighborhoods have these sales especially when I can go with a fun friend!

Often I get carried away and forget everything I bought. That happened with this birdhouse in the pictures below. I unloaded it and pretty much forgot about it until today! It was handmade with wood from an old barn by a man who had recently passed away. We stopped at his wife’s home, and she reluctantly sold it to me. She said she had lots more that he had made, and was not ready to sell them all yet. I didn’t know him of course, but his wife was so sweet and seemed to enjoy our visit when we stopped at her sale. I would like to think that it makes him happy to know that his bird house has a new home, and will be enjoyed for years!

It might not look like much to the average person, but I love it! It makes me smile when I remember how much fun it was to explore this small community by attending their yard sales!

I love birdhouses and don’t plan on putting this one in one of my booths!

Do you have something that you’ve bought that brings memories to you? Tell me about it!

Thanks for the visit!

I love this birdhouse. Very sweet and nice that you met the wife of the man that made it.

Well, I'm not real bright! I went down too far and linked to the wrong date! Thanks for the opportunity, and a couple of milk glass vases that we bought at a garage sale bring back memories of when I was a little girl. My mother had some milk glass that was always out.

Diane, I love the birdhouse, too, but even more, I love the story about how it came to be. I know that sweet lady felt better about selling it to you because you loved it at first sight and appreciated her husband's handiwork.

I have several things that evoke fond and happy memories of where and when I bought them.

Thank you for sharing yours with us.

It looks like someone is making a home in your birdhouse! :-)
I bet it would make him happy to know that someone appreciates his handiwork.

Hi Diane, I was over here several times and your comment section was slow to come up. It was slow this time too. I think we are having some computer slow down for some reason. I hope this will post.

The rough barn wood birdhouse is so nice. I love the vintage of the old wood. That person's husband must have been quite a guy. She is still felling the sadness of his loss.

Enjoy your great find.
Hugs, Jeanne

Diane, the thing I like about your birdhouse is that it is not "fake" primitive. It's the real thing... made with real rusted tin and nails, etc. It wasn't mass produced which makes it have more meaning to me.

I have lots of birdhouses, and I have several favorites. I think the one I treasure most, though, is the one that Rue made for me that has my little dogs looking out the window. If we sell the house, I will always have a little copy with that birdhouse. It means a lot.

XO,

Sheila

Hi Diane!

Sorry it has been so long since I visited you -- life has been busy and my computer time short.

I love this bird house! It is so rustic and vintage looking with a touching story.

Any plans to come to NYC this summer?

♥ Pat

What is not to love about a birdhouse. I only use ones that are pretty and functional. I want the birdies to feel safe and stylish. Have a great day. Thanks for the party.
