Rainy Day Makeovers

Yesterday it rained all day long here! I usually don't stay home all day, but the slow rain made it a good day just to stay home and work on some projects. First, I put my ferns out so they could get a good watering. Then, before the rain started in, I spray painted a few things that needed a face lift. I had to move them to the shed before they were dry...and it took a little longer for them to dry because of the damp weather.
My daughter is having a Southern Living at Home party this weekend, and I'm helping her with some projects to get her home ready. She bought this picture for her screened porch at a recent garage sale.
She wanted it to be updated a little, so here it is with a new coat of paint...in none other that black! After looking at all the projects on blogs, I just couldn't picture it any other way.
Here is a rattan bird cage that I found at a yard sale a few weeks ago. I thought about painting it to match my porch.
But since I had the black paint out anyway.....I gave it a coat or two of black!

We may use it to decorate Kelli's porch, but for now and for the photo I put it on top of the new garage sale cabinet. I really like the contrast of the green plant and black. If she doesn't want to keep it for her porch, it may end up here.
So, there you have it! That's how I spent my rainy day...painting, blogging, washing clothes, etc! The rain finally stopped around 4 pm., and I decided to go to aerobics. How do you spend your rainy days? I'm hoping the sun will come out tomorrow! Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Diane, it sounds ... and looks ... as if you had a productive rainy day. I love all your black accessories. Doesn't it make a difference!

I spent yesterday trudging all over Jackson in the rain, questioning my sanity. I literally had to "wade" into Hobby Lobby, and then I didn't even buy anything!

I think we're supposed to get a little sunshine our way today which will be nice.

Hope your day is a good one.

    Sincerely,

    Janie

Found you through Debbie's Blog Around the World...I'm at the top of Mississippi near Memphis. We had lots of rain all day yesterday, too. I hated I couldn't get out my spray paint! : )

  6. Hi Diane,

What a productive Rainy Day you had! And everything looks so nice!

We've hardly had any rain in weeks here...so I don't know how I'd spend a rainy day! Well, with all the rooms that still need painting, or the sewing that needs to be done, or the re-decorating that's in mid-stream, or the painting/re-finishing of all of our "goodies" waiting in the garage..........well...I guess I do know how I'd spend a Rainy Day in Michigan!

  7. I love rainy days. In the summer you can not go anywhere because Cape Cod Summer traffic on a rainy day is enough to drive you crazy!!

I like to knit! It's much safer!

I really like Kelli's print. It's looks great with the black frame. The bird cage looks great too. You did a nice job.

    take care,
    Dawn

  10. Good Morning Diane, Oh, how I love a rainy day. Nothing puts me in a mood to cook more than a rainy day. I like to cook a pot roast, or meatloaf, sometimes chili, just what ever. I always bake a cake on a rainy day, well I could go on and on.....
I love what that black paint did to that picture and I love your bird cage. I had one very similar to yours and I gave it to my mom, I want it back, but she loves it too much. I think my mom and I are alot like you and your daughter, we are always trading house stuff, its kinda like having a place to store my stuff till I want it back...LOL:) but sometimes she won't give it back....like the bird cage...LOL:)
well, I have talked way to long...Blessings to you today, Nancy

  24. oooh I love days like that, pottering around, painting stuff, blogging a bit and seeing how all the finds turned out

I can't believe how good the birdcage looks, can you imagine how much that would cost in a high-end shop, or a regular shop for that matter, I really like that, in fact everything looks great, I am gonna get myself a can of black for a little bit of contrast here at the cottage

oh and I missed the buffet post, I think black would look nice but then I love that vintage distressed colour too

  25. Diane I need a rainy day to do some catch up projects around here. I am loving your black paint. The birdhouse picture looks great. The bird cage too. It is amazing how things change with black paint especially.

We were gone all day so my visiting is behind again. I have to admit keeping up, is a time consuming task. A pleasant task though.

I need to clean my closet, maybe it will rain tomorrow. Smile.

    Love, Jeanne
