2nd Time Around Tuesday: Oak Mantel

This week I'm featuring our fireplace mantel. It was painted white when we bought it but is tiger oak like so many of my other antique pieces. My son Jonathan helped me locate it, and we had it refinished. If you want to view the before pictures of the mantel, click here.

My son thinks I have too much oak, but I just can't help it...I love the look of the oak and the warmth of the color. Check out this small hall tree I found last week in an antique store in Brooklyn! I really fell for this one-especially the round mirror. No, I didn't buy it, but if money had been no object I might have! The owner was so nice, and said me would ship it to Mississippi!

    Hi Diane...I think your mantel looks wonderful...it is an antique so it should be without paint I think...that halltree/chair is magnificent! Are you sure you can't squeeze several hundred $$$ out of the grocery budget for it?

    I've never heard of a hall tree, but I can see it'd be an excellent idea to have a mirror and a place to sit down in a hallway--perhaps by the door.

    Good morning Diane. Your mantel is gorgeous. I would not like it painted white. I still struggle with fine antiques painted white. Tiger oak is so beautiful. I do love the hall tree. It is different than most.

    Too much oak - no such thing! I'm a fan of oak too - it has such warmth! I absolutely love that mantle - beautiful wood and design! PAM

    I found your site and wanted to join in as we buy nearly everything we own secondhand, so I've added a link this week.     Oh Diane I love this mantle...I also just love old oak its so warm and mellow and Heavy also...I never can move mine anyomre who knows what lives behind it now ha ha!! love that hall tree first one I seen with a round mirror...thanks for sharing...hugs and smiles Gl♥ria

    I remember your mantle post and I've always loved it. I think oak is such a nice rich wood.

    That hall tree was so unusual! It's a good thing I don't have an inch of room for it or I would be tempted to go to Atlantic Ave and buy it :-)
