Foodie Friday: Edamane

Gollum at Designs by Gollum is hosting Foodie Friday. Please visit for lots more 'Food Related' posts.

Not too long ago, I didn't even know what Edamame was! As part of a nutrition class I go too weekly, our dietitian introduced us to this product as a way to get more protein with fewer calories in our diet. Click here to learn more about them.

They are not like other beans...you open the pod and eat the beans. They taste almost like boiled peanuts. You can buy a smaller package at Walmart, but this package of 8 is a great buy at Sam's Club. They are a great low cal snack-good to satisfy the craving to munch on something!

Here's a great article titled the Secret of Edamame that is an interesting read. See if you can find out which famous singer snacks on them!

Have any of you tried them? I would love to know your reaction!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I love edamame! We often have them as an appetizer when we eat at a Japanese restaurant.

I also buy them at Costco. I usually rinse them to get rid of the extra salt they seem to have when they are packaged.

  2. I've seen them used on some of the cooking shows I watch, but I've never eaten them. Might have to give them a try now.

  4. Yes, I've bought them before and I guess I like them. I did find them "boring" (in taste) after a while so I didn't buy any more. Maybe I need to find different ways to fix them to enjoy them more. PAM

I've never had them, but you have me convinced. I haven't been by for awhile so I've sure enjoyed catching up with you. Your NY trips sound like they were so much fun. I love NY.

  14. I have not tried this. I'll be looking for it though. Grandson Drew refuses to eat meat. He's done this from the beginning, when he started having solid food. This might be another good source of protein for him.
My contribution, this week, is loaded with calories!!!!

  15. Great post. I boil them, rinse and add a little salt and leave them in the fridge for munching or tossing on top of a salad. Very, very healthy form of soy.

  25. Diane I came over to your post early this evening and fell asleep while reading your post. LOL. I had a day where I never stopped all day. My daughter and her family will be here tomorrow for spring break and I had to clean, fit in therapy and a Dr. visit. A lot of activity for me.

I have never eaten Edamame's before. I am interested in trying them though. Now I need to find them. No big stores here. I'll let you know!!! I like boiled peanuts if they are done right.

See you tomorrow on Pinkie day.

    Hugs...Jeanne
