A couple of Saturdays ago, many of you helped me identify a pink plant whose name I had forgotten that I planted last year. The plant was yarrow and I really appreciate those of you who named it for me. I won’t forget this time!
Well-I have another one…this bluish purple plant is one that I bought on clearance from Lowes. I usually save the tags, but have hidden them from myself! So, if you can help me identify this plant, I would appreciate it!
And, I wanted to share this one too…it is Victoria Blue Salvia. I planted it last year, and it has come back this spring and looks great! I highly recommend this plant if you are shopping for perennials!

Connor spent the night with us on Friday after going to the play I posted about yesterday. We had to get up early and get to the soccer complex for his last game. He didn’t want to get dressed, so I solved the problem by bribing him-I told him I would give him a dollar to get dressed. It did the trick-he was ready in no time! His mama didn’t think it was too funny, but as a grandmother you do what you have to do. We even arrived at the game before his mom and dad!
This was Connor’s last soccer game of the season. Here he is in his blue uniform holding his 2nd soccer trophy.
Now that soccer is over, it is time for T Ball! Connor played for the first time last year, and began to really get into it just as the season ended.

On one of my recent trips to New York I came across these ceramic tiles that were displayed on a fence near Greenwich Village.
This monument, Tiles For America, is on the corner of 11th Street and 7th Avenue and you can read more about it by clicking here.
This one was especially moving to me. I remember where I was that day as I’m sure most of you do. While in New York City, I couldn’t help but wonder what it would have been like to have been there the day this horrible event occurred. Can you imagine what it must have felt like? I remember the fear that I felt, and I was a long way from NYC!
I tried to explain to Pat from Milli Fiori Favoriti where this memorial was, and she had not heard about it, or either I didn’t do too great of a job of explaining it! So, Pat, now you know. It was not far at all from where we walked that day!
The tiles were created by people from all around the world and all walks of life…children, seniors, churches, etc. To find a studio near you click here.
If you are ever in New York City, please try to see this memorial! It was a very moving experience for me!

While in Bay Saint Louis last week for the Great American Cleanup, my cousin Kathleen took Karen and I on a little tour of Bay St. Louis. One of the sites she showed us was this "Angel Tree" that is only a couple of blocks from the beach. The BLUE skies were partly cloudy and my picture didn't turn out as clear as I hoped, but you can see the details with which the angels were carved in this tree which did not survive the storm.
I found this excerpt from the archives of Mississippi Magazine that explains the Angel Tree:
During the worst part of the storm, several locals (including a retired hurricane hunter) sought "high ground" on the second floor of the Bay Town Inn, near Demontluzin Avenue. When the huge house began to crumble in the violent storm surge, three of them--Doug Niolet, Nikki Nicholson, and Kevan Guillry--swam to a nearby oak tree in a last-resort effort to survive the storm. All three individuals made it through safely by clinging to the limbs, but the tree did not survive.
When the tree, the very thing that stood strong to save their lives, faced imminent removal, they sought the help of an Indiana "chain saw sculptor" named Dayle Lewis with the Kat-Rita Wood Project, a non-profit organization that turns hurricane scrap wood into art. Lewis whittled the bare Live Oak down to its main trunk and created beautiful angels from some of its existing limbs. Now locals call the sculpture the "Demontluzin Angels" to commemorate their experience.

Since I have re-retired, it seems that time management is still an issue. You would think that I would have plenty of time to get everything done, but for some reason I don't!
So I bought this blue planner from Wal-Mart. I like it because it has tabs that help you find the month, and a day by day planner. Also, it didn't cost a bundle, so it won't matter if I misplace it! I'm hoping it will help me stay at least a little more organized!
How do you stay organized? I would love to hear your tips in the comment section!
I will be traveling tomorrow with my friend Karen to Waveland on the Mississippi Gulf Coast to take part in a Keep American Beautiful kick off rally. It will be one of three across the country this year. Click here to read more. We are going a day early and will spend the night with her daughter in Bay St. Louis.

I am so ready for spring!
It's raining here today, but we had a beautiful day here Sunday...there were so many people out walking, hiking and horseback riding at a local park. My friend Beth and I walked for over an hour! I know we have lots more wintery weather in store, but the beautiful day was just a promise of things to come!

It seems that I have a 'blogging block.' I haven't had too many of these since I usually have lots I want to blog about!
So, I looked in my 'antiques' folder and thought I would take us on a short window shopping trip of an antique store in Birmingham!
Antique shops are great places to get art. I really loved this oil painting of sunflowers. I think the price was $75.00. Be sure to notice the blue vase!
This same shop in Cahaba Heights had lots of gardening decor. I really have a thing about birdhouses. These are so cute painted in the beachy looking colors! Can't wait til warmer weather!
I really love the way this piece was painted black with a dark red on the interior. I have a cabinet that I bought way back....I'm still thinking about giving it a paint job!
I am going to have to go 'antiquing' again. The photos that I have taken while doing this are fun to go back through. I like to take pictures of things that catch my eye so I can thing about how I can use them here!

This week I'd like to show you another one of the trees in the Trees of Christmas tour at Merrehope. I wrote about Merrehope on pink Saturday a week or so ago, and if you would like to visit that post, click here.
This blue tree was decorated by Alpha Delta Kappa, my teacher sorority. The tree is to remember the visit Elvis made to our town as a young teenager.
We used lots of blue because his song 'Blue Christmas' was his most popular Christmas song. 
We used small cd's to stand for his albums. At first we painted some of them black to look more like records, but the silver looked so much better on the tree we decided everyone would know what the cd's stood for.
We used poster board to make the silver guitars. They were spray painted and sprinkled with glitter. Most of the decorations on the trees at Merrehope are handmade. 
The tour will run until the first week of January and is the major fundraiser for the home. I will be volunteering there on Sunday the 21st to give tours. This has been a fun project to be involved in and one that I've really enjoyed!

These pictures are of our last day in Orlando, Florida. After going to my uncle's home for a brunch, we decided to visit Sea World. One of the best shows we saw in Orlando was the Believe show at Sea World. Make sure you look at the schedule if you are going there and get to this show! It is late in the day, and the only one done each day.
The orca whales are beautiful and amazing-and apparently very smart!
Connor loved the show, but was just as happy sticking his hands into this fountain!
And after a long day, Cooper was all smiles when we stopped for a picture by this bubble blowing octopus!

Pictured below is Victoria Blue Salvia, a new addition to my garden this year. Amazingly, it is one of the few plants in my garden that has continued to bloom throughout the fall.
According to Garden Guide.Com it is a tender perennial. I hope with enough pine straw mulch, mine will come back next year. Don't you love stuff that comes back each year?
Here's some blue (looks more purple in the picture) and red salvia at the Magic Kingdom in Orlando. I need to know their gardening secrets! Maybe time and money???
Don't forget Trash to Treasure tomorrow! You can post anything that has become a treasure to you that someone else didn't want! It doesn't literally have to be from the trash!

I saw lots of blue like the blue in the sky and everywhere else in Gulf Shores, Alabama at the National Shrimp Festival! On my pink Saturday post I posted that I would be making a weekend trip, that it had something to do with shrimp and that it was a surprise!
Bo from Blinks and Winks from Brown Eyes guessed Gulf Shores and Janie from Southern Lagniappe guessed the Shrimp Festival at Gulf Shores. They were both right!
In all my years of going to Gulf Shores, this was my very first time to go to the National Shrimp Festival. You can click here to read more about it.
The trip was planned by my daughter and was a surprise for Chad to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary. You are probably wondering why I was included in the trip. They renewed their wedding vows on the beach, and asked family members to be there to witness the ceremony and celebrate with them.
I took lots of pictures, and will share a few of them later in the week after I see which ones Kelli wants for her blog!
For today, I'll just post some of the blue I spotted at the National Shrimp Festival...which was everywhere...like this sign.

Here's Cooper dressed in BLUE. Everyone thought he was a girl. We finally got tired of correcting them and just smiled and said "Thank you" when he got a compliment!

We had a great time at the festival, especially the two mornings that we went. It was pretty crowded as the day went on, and hard to see it all, but I really enjoyed it and would love to go back!

When I retired from teaching in June of 2007, I received lots of nice gifts from family members and colleagues.
Since this is Blue Monday on Smiling Sally's blog, I thought I would feature my little Bluebird of Happiness. He was given to me by Georgia, a very sweet lady who happens to be in my teacher sorority.
He is so cute and has a home in the secretary in my bedroom. I just love him....looking at him reminds me of the story and of my friend!
