2nd Time Around: Christmas

Jackson 005 Welcome to 2nd Time Around. Please join us by linking a post that features something that is a 2nd Time Around to you…something from a garage sale, flea market, thrift store, estate sale, etc. Please link your post rather than your blog, and link back to this blog. Thank you for participating.

This weeks 2nd Time Around features a Christmas find. I ran across these little Fitz and Floyd napkin rings a few weeks ago at an estate sale. I really liked , but decided to list them in my Vintage Etsy shop since I am trying to get it established and needed some cute merchandise At first I didn’t think they would sell, but they did after about 2 weeks. Now they have a great home in New York! Have you ever sold something and were not sure you really wanted to? That’s how I felt about these…but I know I can’t keep it all! And it makes me feel good to know that they have a home where they are now wanted!

And last but not least…here is my tree….and it is a 2nd Time Around of sorts. Last year I added alot of lime green to the stuff I already had. This year I used the lime green again! I did add the long green ornaments that look sorta like pine cones-bought after Christmas last year on sale of course!

2nd Time Around Wall Hangings

Since I’ve been scouting out sales for items for my booth at the antique mall and for my Etsy shop, I’ve found lots of things I’ve bought for my home.

Recently I found these two pretty butterfly prints tucked away at the Salvation Army Family Store. They are the perfect size for a little nook near my desk!

IMG_1922

Then the same week, I found these pansy prints at a local garage sale. The frames were a little too ‘gold’ so I used Rub n Buff to tone them down a bit. Now they are hanging on a bare wall in my bath. IMG_1936

Have you found any 2nd Time Around treasures lately? Tell us about them!

2nd Time Around: Navtivity

Since I’ve opened my booth at the antique mall, I’m always seeing things I would love to have as you might suspect! This large nativity was a recent purchase from a booth next to ours. The lady that operates this booth works in the store every Monday, and often that is the day I drop by to add new things.

I’ve always wanted a big nativity and this one was 1/2 price. What is it about those words that make us think we are getting a bargain? This set was priced at $34 and I got 1/2 off-so I don’t think it was much of a bargain, but every now and then we have to splurge-right???

Here are some closeups that feature the details. This year I think it will be on the sideboard! Thanks for stopping by!

2nd Time Around: Another Chalkboard

Recently I wrote about my booth at the Antique Mall. Since I’ve been buying so much to go in it, and creating crafts with Karen, a friend of mine, we decided to try an Etsy store. The picture below is one of the chalkboards I’ve made-from a repurposed picture frame.

So far we’ve had 4 sales in the store, which is not bad considering that we just started it on Thursday! You can view our other vintage items and crafts by clicking on the link to the left. We have lots more to add….just got to have the time!

2nd Time Around: Old planters

Jackson 005

Welcome to 2nd Time Around. Please join us by linking a post that features something that is a 2nd Time Around to you…something from a garage sale, flea market, thrift store, estate sale, etc. Please link your post rather than your blog, and link back to this blog.

Since I’ve started shopping for my booth at the Antique Mall, I’ve really started going to lots more estate sales etc. And as would be expected, I often find things that I would really like to keep!

Recently I found these two cast iron vintage planters for $5.00 a piece at a sale! My son said they would bring a lot more than that at the Antique Mall!

We had beautiful weather here on Monday-temperature in the seventies-so I spent the day planting some pansies and ornamental cabbages in my pots in front of the porch.

The only thing I had to do to them was drill a few holes for drainage, fill with potting soil and plant! And the black and white is a perfect compliment to our house with white siding and black shutters!

IMG_2110

I was lucky that there were 2 of them! You can also see in this picture an old fireplace grate that I’ve lined with a mat and planted. Sorry the sidewalk is so dirty-guess that means we’ll have to drag out the pressure washer!

IMG_2109

I ran out of pansies before I got to the pots on the back porch, but I did have a few that I tucked in among the impatiens in this old log planter. I moved my steps that were in the post for Halloween back to the back porch and love the added height that they give to this old planter!

IMG_2107 I’m glad I got all this done today, cause tomorrow it will be cloudy and in the fifties!

Pink Saturday and an Art Auction

Today I’m joining Beverly of How Sweet the Sound for Pink Saturday after taking an extended break. Thank you Beverly for hosting-you have stuck with this and I know it has to be a lot of work!

This art work in the post was created by a local artist, Julie Lee,  to be auctioned off to benefit breast cancer patients in our hometown.

Julie is an up and coming artist with so much talent! She did this work to illustrate how breast cancer touches women from all walks of life regardless of age, race, or income. The pink blanket wrapped around the women unites them in their battle against breast cancer.

It is hard to get a good picture of art –so I made two-one with the flash and one without so that you can see the details.

IMG_2078 IMG_2076

The concert on Oct 31 was dedicated to breast cancer patients and the painting was auctioned during a pre concert event.  I can’t think of a better cause for October!

IMG_2079

I have visited Julie’s studio a time or two, and one of my friends and I are considering taking art lessons from her  after the first of the year. Maybe then I can do a post and show more of her talent.

Connor and the Doughboy Monument

Thank you Veterans for all you have done for our country! Without your sacrifices, we would not have the freedoms that we have today!

In my hometown, there will be a memorial service in front of our Doughboy monument and a parade downtown.

Connor has always been fascinated with the monument, and often we will stop when driving by so he can examine it up close. I let him take this picture one day…it is one of my favorites!

July 2008 154 Here is his in front of the monument. He is growing up but still loves to stop by the monument, and I have the opportunity to explain to him about those that have fought for the freedoms we so often take for granted.

2nd Time Around: My booth at the antique mall

Welcome to 2nd Time Around. Please join us by linking a post that features something that is a 2nd Time Around to you…something from a garage sale, flea market, thrift store, estate sale, etc. Please link your post rather than your blog, and link back to this blog.

This week I would like to share some 2nd Time Around Pictures from a booth that I am spending a lot of time in…my booth at a local antique mall in my home town. A few weeks ago my son and I were looking through some stuff in the garage that I had bought at estate or garage sales and never really gotten around to doing anything with. One of the things he picked up was a tiny painting of a parrot. He suggested that I let him put it in his booth that he had started. I paid 10 cents for the unsigned oil painting-and it sold within a matter of days for $12.00! So…guess you can say that now I’m hooked! Actually, I had bought the painting for the cute little frame and would have never guessed that I could actually make money on it.

So for the past month or so, I have been adding to the booth, and now have my own ‘number.’ Today I will share a few pics of things that I’ve bought. These cute little set of cows all match and came from 2 different garage sales. The sugar and creamer came from a sale in Bay St. Louis, and the salt and pepper came from a local sale. The total investment is $1.00, or 25 cents for each piece. They are not old of course, but lots of the things in this mall aren’t-just cute little flea market type stuff.

IMG_2089

The mahogany cabinet is almost like one I found last year and bought for my house. I found it less than 2 weeks ago, and it was sold within a week! They picked it up on Monday, so I had to spend the day finding a way to arrange the stuff inside it. It was my first big sale!! IMG_2084

The mall owner really doesn’t like crafts, but she has agreed to let me put some of my chalkboards I’ve made with recycled picture frames in the booth. You would think by now I would know to take a before picture, but I didn’t! You will have to take my word for it-this frame and picture were UGLY!! I spray painted it with a sage green, and put a heavy glaze of antique white over it. It’s been hanging there a week-still no buyer! :(

IMG_2085

Some stuff I’m finding at the Hope Village Thrift store like this milk bottle vase with a sunflower and little silver clock.

I also found the cutest ‘Hugging Geese’ salt and pepper shakers there the same day, but they sold before I made these pics. IMG_2086

Every now and then I find a real bargain like this American Fostoria vase at a garage sale. I paid only a dollar for it…and wasn’t sure if it was real or not, but the mall owner examined it, looked it up in her reference book, and her verdict-worth $22! Now I just have to wait for the right buyer! IMG_2087

And of course there are the estate sales. Recently I bought quite a few items from an estate sale here in town. In fact, I went to the sale 3 times total! I thought this little hen salt and pepper for only 50 cents was a great buy! IMG_2088

I’m learning alot, selling stuff here and there, and getting more selective in what I buy as I learn. Most importantly, I’m having lots of fun!

I'm also linking this to Kimba's DIY day!

2nd Time Around: A new coffee table (at least to me!)

Welcome to 2nd Time Around. Please join us by linking a post that features something that is a 2nd Time Around to you…something from a garage sale, flea market, thrift store, estate sale, etc. Please link your post rather than your blog, and link back to this blog.

One day last week I had a chance to preview some stuff that a friend of a friend was selling. I have been looking for a coffee table for our bonus room with a shelf that could be used for a TV table. The ceilings are a funny shape, and I need something not too tall. I found this little mahogany coffee table for 20 dollars! So…..I decided to try it out in the living area for now. We have always thought we didn’t want one because of space, but I really like the way it looks. It needs some of the scratches and nicks fixed…but you can get the general idea. Not bad piece for 20 bucks!

IMG_2067

The coffee table belong to the girl’s mother, and she was remodeling her home and decided to part with it.  I think she was glad the table went to a good home! Thanks for stopping by!

2nd Time Around: $2.00 steps

Welcome to 2nd Time Around. Please join us by linking a post that features something that is a 2nd Time Around to you…something from a garage sale, flea market, thrift store, estate sale, etc. Please link your post rather than your blog, and link back to this blog.

Last week I mentioned that my friend and I did a craft show. The day before I found this little bench at a yard sale for $2.00. It was perfect for displaying some of our stuff. I knew I could find something to do with it later, and decided to use it on my porch for my pumpkins! Later, after it gets a fresh coat of paint, it will be perfect on the porch for plants!

Here’s a pic with the flash…..

Feeding the ducks: Outdoor Wednesday

I know some of you are surprised that I’m actually doing a post and it’s not Tuesday! I have really been lazy about blogging lately…don’t know why cause I enjoy it when I spend time on it.

These pics were taken one Sunday afternoon when my mom and I took Connor and Cooper to feed the ducks. Connor has just turned seven and Cooper two. They are having a birthday party together on Sat!

IMG_1903

Cooper is smiling one minute …..

 IMG_1906

And crying the next! I think one of the ducks was a little too aggressive!

IMG_1907

And Connor is the same all the time-afraid of nothing at all!

Thanks Susan for hosting this event.

2nd Time Around: Garage sale frames and Halloween Decor

Welcome to 2nd Time Around. Please join us by linking a post that features something that is a 2nd Time Around to you…something from a garage sale, flea market, thrift store, estate sale, etc. Please link your post rather than your blog, and link back to this blog.

I have been really busy with a craft fair that my friend and I did this past weekend. When she asked me to do it, I wasn’t sure what I could make that people might actually buy!

One of the things that I did was go through my stash of yard sale frames and see what I could ‘repurpose’ for the craft show. I paid a total of 75 cents for the picture frames below.

IMG_1942 And I used an old scrapbook calendar to come up with some Halloween decor. The double frame was painted black and I used a witch with the word Boo on the other side….

IMG_1949

For this one, I made the Happy Haunting on the computer. This scrapbook paper has a row of witch feet and hats and painted the frame black of course! This one is my personal favorite.

IMG_1950

Of the Halloween pictures we made, this one is the only one that sold-for $3-after I marked it down. Excuse all the junk in the background. I should have cleaned off the craft table for the photo shoot! LOL

IMG_1951

Although we sold only one Halloween picture, I did manage to sell some other stuff. 4 of the Christmas ones I made sold and also a chalkboard I made from a thrift store frame. Guess the people in our town don’t so much Halloween decorating! LOL

We did have fun, and although we certainly didn’t get rich, it was overall a great experience. And, I can use my ‘favorite’ one in my own home!

Thanks for stopping by!

2nd Time Around: Antique Cars at Cruising the Coast

Welcome to  2nd Time Around. Please join us by linking a post that features something that is a 2nd Time Around to you…something from a garage sale, flea market, thrift store, estate sale,  etc. Please link your post rather than your blog, and link back to this blog

This past weekend we went to Cruising the Coast in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Although we don’t own an antique car, we had a great time visiting with my cousin Kathleen, her husband Joe, and her sister Chris. The Mississippi Gulf Coast has hosting this event for 12 years-although the year of Katrina (2005) the event was not held. This was our first time to go, and we enjoyed it so much!

I thought since these old cars had been fixed up and given a ‘2nd chance’ so to speak, that this would be perfect for my 2nd Time Around post!

We saw hundreds of antique cars as they cruised down Main Street in Bay St. Louis! Don’t worry-I didn’t take a picture of them all and I promise I won’t post all the ones I did photograph.

There were LOTS of Camaros!

IMG_1954 Most of them were red or blue….

IMG_1956 Hubby and I in front of a gray one!

IMG_1961

There were lots of great entertainers throughout the weekend too…performing music from the era of most of the cars—50’s and 60’s!

IMG_1966

The cars  for sale had pretty hefty prices-this 1938 car was for sale for $38,000!

IMG_1979

A magnet on the side of a car pretty well describes the majority of the crowd at the event. LOL

IMG_1980

People were there from all over!

IMG_1982

This lime green on stood out in the crowd!

IMG_1996

I took lots more pics-if you would like to see some more join me for Pink Saturday this week.
