Pink Saturday Finds!

I'm trying to get my blog going again and can't think of a better way than linking to Beverly's Pink Saturday event! Her blog was one of the first I visited, and I linked to quite a few Pink Saturday events!

I'm still going to estate sales! This pic is of a sale I went to today! The kind of sale all junkers love! Everything was really clean, neat and cheap! Not sure what I will do with the chenille fabric scraps, but the frame will probably become a chalkboard. Under the pink are two cool vintage lamps!

Thanks Beverly for hosting this event! Please stop by and visit Beverly and the other Pink Saturday participants!

2nd Time Around: Italian Pottery

Welcome to 2nd Time Around. Please join us by linking a post that features something that is a 2nd Time Around to you…something from a garage sale, flea market, thrift store, estate sale, etc. Please link your post rather than your blog, and link back to this blog. Thank you for participating.

Last week my son and I went to Columbus, Ms. to an estate sale that we found on estatesales.net.
We were a little disappointed because all the prices were really high! The man in charge said that the merchandise was purchased from three different New York estates. I could have walked out empty handed, but did find this made in Italy compote on the 75% off table. I know it is not worth much, but I love Italian pottery!
Our trip was not in vain, I found a vintage music box at a thrift store, and several great pieces of vintage jewelry from a vendor at one of the antique malls. And, I enjoyed seeing the sites of Columbus! Lots of great old homes there!

2nd Time Around: Estate sale scales

Welcome to 2nd Time Around. Please join us by linking a post that features something that is a 2nd Time Around to you…something from a garage sale, flea market, thrift store, estate sale, etc.

This balance scale is one that came from an estate sale a few years back. Last year, I used it in the fall to display the ceramic pumpkins everyone was buying from the Dollar Tree. I’ve also used it to display small potted plants. It’s one of my favorite estate sale pieces.

2nd Time Around: An Estate Sale Treasure

Welcome to 2nd Time Around. If you love 2nd hand treasures, I would love for you to join us and link your post to Mr. Linky below. Anything that you have from a flea market, antique store, garage sale, thrift store, estate sale, or auction will be perfect!

This week, I’m posting a picture of a mirror and brush set that I bought at an estate sale. The set is silver plated, but very nice! It is one of my favorite estate sale finds. I’ve always wanted a set, and when I found this set, I had to have it. One thing about sales like this…you can’t go in with an idea of what you will buy ahead of time!

2nd Time Around Tuesday: Estate Sale Art

Welcome to 2nd Time Around Tuesday. If you love second hand treasures you are in the right place. Just create a post and link the title of your post to Mr. Linky below. You can post most anything...things from an antique store, garage sale, estate sale, thrift store, flea market....just use your imagination! Or maybe you have something that you inherited or was given to you-we would love to see that too!

Today I'm going to show 2 pieces of framed art I bought recently at an estate sale. Often estate sales in our area will last 2 days. The second day the prices are usually cut at least in half.

I didn't get to go to this sale on the first day, but decided to stop by on Sunday which was the 2nd day. One of my teacher friends was there and pointed out these 2 watercolors from Paris. She really thought I needed them since I had traveled there not too long ago. They were marked $45.00 each. I really liked them, and my friend encouraged me to just make an offer. So I did, and got both of them for $40.00!

They have a new home in my foyer area, right next to the piano.
This one is of Notre Dame Cathedral.
And this one is the Arc de Triomphe.

Later I may work on the frames and possibly the mats, but for now I just wanted to get them hung up!

Thanks for stopping by today! I look forward to seeing all the second hand treasures on 2nd Time Around Tuesday!

Do you enjoy estate sales?

Do you like to go to Estate Sales? I really don't enjoy them that much for several reasons.

  • It's usually very crowded
  • The stuff is usually priced pretty high
  • It kinda makes me sad some of the time
Even though I like garage sales better, I usually don't miss too many estate sales. This past weekend I went to an estate sale of my aunt. She was married to my dad's brother, who died in the 80's. The story is really sad...my aunt died a few days before her daughter, my first cousin. My cousin lost her life to breast cancer after a 4 year battle with the disease. We had reconnected in recent years....mostly through funerals of family members. Also, we talked on the phone during the aftermath of Katrina and emailed occasionally.

My cousin was an only child, and left behind a husband and two grown sons. I have been checking the paper on a regular basis for information on my aunt's estate sale...and the ad finally popped up this weekend. I have tried to email her son-in-law on a couple of occasions, but didn't get a response.

Your probably wondering where I'm going with all this! To be honest, this estate sale made me sad. Pictures of my uncle were out for the public to buy as well as lots of other old pictures. The guy doing the sale said that he had thrown away lots of pictures. It just made me sad that no one wanted these pictures, and of course I wonder if some of our family photos ended up in the trash! I hope that maybe they were overlooked when the family got what they wanted out of the house.

Here are some things of my aunt's that I bought: A vase, some brass book ends, and the pictures.

The guy in charge of the sale basically gave me the pictures since he gave me a package deal on all the stuff. The box of pictures is full of people I don't know. I didn't see any of our family photos in there. I don't know what I'll do with these old pictures....I've been told that people use old black and white photos to decoupage. If you have any ideas...please tell me. I'm not going to throw them in a garbage can!

Oh well, I'm sure I'll go back to the next estate sale. I prefer garage sales, but I guess I'm scared I'll miss something! Like this cute little table......

My cousin Amber, who happens to read this blog, noticed this and bought it at my aunt's sale. It is really cute! I'm surprised it was still there since the sale had been going on for a while before she and her husband came. She got it for a great price too. Maybe after she gets it decorated she'll send me another picture.

Hope you have a great day!
