Works for Me Wed: picture frames question

I would love your opinion on what to do with these frames from Pottery Barn in my hallway. The openings are 14 by 12 inches and there are a total of 12 spaces. I posted the question to Rhoda at Southern Hospitality and got a couple of great ideas from her. She suggested scrapbook paper or pressed flowers. I love the look of pressed flowers, and may use that. The scrapbook paper idea is great....and it would be something I could get done quickly.

The problem is I'm having trouble making up my mind. Here are some of my own ideas:

Pictures of Italy that we took ourselves....8 by 10's printed landscape and mounted on black. I have some really good ones...I'm sure I can come up with 12. This one was taken from the window in our hotel in Rome.

Another idea: Carousel horses from around town printed landscape and matted. I would have to take these pictures. There are quite a few of these...so getting 12 wouldn't be that big of a problem.
Another idea: Black and white or sepia tone family pics. I would have to edit some photos and choose ones that could be done in landscape.

And last but not least...Fresco prints of some of my pictures. I really love this effect from Photobucket!
So...give me your opinion! How would you use these frames in your home?

Gosh, this is a hard one. But, hmmm.... since you're the one that is going to be looking at these all the time, I would say that you should look at each of these options with "new eyes" and see what your immediate impressions are. Which ideas make you happiest? What would you really WANT to look at every day?

My husband and I are redoing our bedroom and we received some old windows from my grandmothers house. They have 4 sections in them and we thought of doing something like taking one big picture and cutting it into 4ths so that it looks like you are looking out through a window. Your picture frame reminds me of a window and it would work perfectly. You could have your picture blown up to the appropriate size and then cut it into each square like a puzzle almost. It think that would look awesome.Did that make any sense? LOL!
Good luck!
Blessings,
Kim

Diane, all of your ideas are good ones, but I especially like the idea of the sepia-tone family pictures (love the one of Connor!), or "fresco'd" pictures of your house. You could try one or two of those in sepia tones, too, to see how they look. Another idea is to try "fresco-ing" your Italy pictures.

Your photos are always so good, and it would be a shame not to use some of them so you can enjoy them all the time.

I can't wait to see what you come up with ...

Sincerely,

Janie

Oh WOW...I think ANY of your suggestions would be great! I'm sorry I am no help at all but I can't wait to see what you end up doing with those frames.

Morning Girl!! How are you? Those frames are great & all your ideas for them are fantastic...but I too love the idea of the sepia pics and the fresco ones...the great thing is you have some many options you could change them out anytime...Hope you have a great day my friend!

This is just too hard. I think it depends on the other pictures in your house as well. I immediately thought the Italy ones. I've been there, and I know the pictures you must have for the frames! However, you just can't go wrong of sepia/black and white of family. I think this is going to have to be your choice. Good luck!

Sepia tone pictures of family gets my vote...but I don't think you'd go wrong with any of your choices.

Diane,
Oh, the picture of Italy is breathtaking! It would bring wonderful memories of a wonderful time or the sepia toned pictures of family would be beautiful. You will be the one who looks at these beautiful frames and memories the most. Put something in them that will bring pleasure to you and to your family.
Good Luck and show us your choice,
Beth

I like the pressed flowers idea... but I also looove the Italy pictures idea. Can you combine the two, in checker pattern or something similar? Like, put a picture from Italy in one, and next to it put the flowers? You could do something that particularly lends to the Italian imagery, also.

I would probably use some of everything. I would arrange them in a way that blended all the styles. Then I'd call it "My Favorite Pictures Collection." I am sure whatever you do will look beautiful. Thanks for giving us the chance to consider the options.

Kristy said...

I'd suggest a combination, too - use one of the choices you mentioned and intersperse with with simple scrapbook paper or pressed flowers. That way, the photos or prints you do have, have more impact.

Hmmm, I just wrote a reply and can't seem to find it here. So I'll do it again.

I love your frames. They are great! I'm no great decorator but I think I would choose to frame pictures of my family.

I look forward to seeing what you do with them.

take care,
Dawn

Hello dear Diane, Thank you for your support once again with your visits and supportive words. I'm back and feeling much better. Knee replacement is tough, but I'm tougher, (most of the time.) Smile. Now, for your very good question about those frames. First of all, I love them. what a great set of frames to do something really special. Second, 'do' use your own photos to fill them. Your vacation memories or your fresco look on your neighborhood photos of your home and things around your beautiful neighborhood, or family in sepia. I love all of those ideas. See if you can find 12 photos of the same theme and go with it. Good luck with that fun project. Can't wait to see it all done.

How is school doing? I hope it doesn't wear you out too much my friend.

Hugs, Jeanne

I like the photos taken on vacation. Those would be really pretty. Another idea: wallpapering a board to put behind them. Mirrors. Or take wood or cardboard, quilt batting, then fabric over it, stapled to the back.

If all your pictures from Italy look like that one, I'd fill those frames with that! VERY pretty!

Kelli@SassySouthernMom said...

My first choice would be the carousel horses. Mostly because they are unique to Meridian. The second choice would be the pictures of Italy. They are really rustic and beautiful. I'm sure whatever you do will turn out just fine. Can't wait to see what you do...

How about the carosel horses printed in black and white. Although the colors would be the same...of course...LOL! ...the horses and designs would be different. ...but one "cohesive idea." Just a thought...love the frames!

And I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE those tiger oak chairs! Gorgeous!

okay...it looks like you already have a few fabulous ideas...but I recently did something a "picture framer" is copying so I thought I'd share. (I'm not the most creative person, so I'm a little giddy that someone else liked it! :)

I LOVE books, so in my office, I copied & framed the dust jackets of my favorite books...I am going for a library look. A collage of books that you love or are meaningful to you is just as personal as family photos (b/c usually those books have shaped who you are in some way ie. religion, philosophical, what you consider happily-ever-after, etc.) And it's something a little different...it will make your visitors stop & think...and may lead to some interesting conversations. Just a thought.

Can't wait to see what you decide to do with the frames. :)

Diane,

I like the pressed flower idea and the pictures of Italy and Conner. If you did the pic's I would do them all in sepia tone. Hope this helps. Isn't it great we can get so many opinions nowadays?

Hard choice but great frames! If it were me, I would go with the trip to Italy - hands down. The picture on your post is beautiful and it brought memories back for me from my visit. It's just a great cozy feeling. What about doing pictures from all of our travels that may all flow together? If they are printed in the same color - B & W or sepia - it should look cohesive. I'd also mount them with a textured paper or maybe even fabric - maybe burlap? To add some extra interest. Fun project. Can't wait to see what you decide!

Well, the beauty of this idea is--you can change the art when mood, time, and energy coincide. That said, what about the Italian photos--but frescoed at Photobucket? They would look like paintings. We have one wall of travel photos going down to the basement, and every time I see those pictures, I smile.

Also, you might want to take a look at www.isabellaandmaxrooms.com. Janell framed her daughter's drawings, and they're awesome. She went on Oprah with this idea.

Me, I am dying to find a frame like yours and fill it with frescoed pics of my doggies.
Take care,
gollum

I think every one of your ideas is great. Maybe you could switch them out every few months.
If you absolutely forced me to vote, I'd probably choose the pictures of Italy. It will be like going on a mini vacation every time you look out your window frames.

Oh Diane, without a doubt I would do the Frisco pictures. I love the frames...they are so different and unique! Can't wait to see what you do. Nancy

My vote is for the black and white family photos. But then again, I love those in almost any scenario, so I guess that is predictable! I am sure it will be beautiful, whatever you do!

I loved all your ideas. So many choices. I tend to have a lot of pictures of our travels around my house so I lean towards that idea. Since the fram is brown, I'd probably tint my photos in sepia, then I'd have a few choice squares dedicated to some word art that has to do with the joy of traveling, exploring, and discovery. You'll have to show us what you ended up deciding. :-)
