While browsing blogs yesterday, I came across a blog , Water Once a Week that mentioned the tree at the Vatican.
That gave me the idea to post this picture I made last year. We were in Italy after Christmas last year, and here is a picture of the Christmas tree in Saint Peter's Square in front of the Vatican.
The Vatican has been putting up a tree since 1982. The tree this year is the tallest one that they've ever had and will be recycled into toys for needy children. The 109 foot high tree is from Austria, and is around 120 years old. It is a very interesting article and if you want to read more and see a picture, click here.
I feel very honored that I was able to photograph last years tree. Wish I was going back and could snap some pics of the new one!
Thanks for stopping by!

That's so neat Diane! It is special that you were able to be there last year. I like that they're going to recycle the tree and make toys out of it too.
I saw that same blog yesterday, Diane, and I can't remember who it was either. Must have been a Pink Saturday lady. Your picture is impressive. That must have been something to see.
Diane, this is really wonderful to get to see, and I like the fact that they recycle the tree into toys for children. That's neat! Thank you for sharing this with us. I would love to get to Rome one day.
XO,
Sheila
Good Morning Diane
You were in Italy last year around this time...how special. I'm sure you had a lovely time.
That is such a huge and beautiful tree...and so old too....I'm sorry they cut it down because it is so old and beautiful...but I am happy they are recycling it. It would be lovely to see what all they make out of it.
have a lovely day and thank you for sharing this story...
Judi
It is so good to see this tree. Thank you for sharing!
I wish you and your family a very joyful, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
You are my dear friend!
So cool that you got to see it in person. I'd love to visit that part of the world!
That is really neat! It's very pretty with the gold and silver balls too... sort of unexpected, but so pretty!
Wow, what a big tree! I'm sure it must have been impressive to see in person. I agree with Judi, it's sad to see such an old, beautiful tree cut down. But, since it is being recycled into gifts for children, it's not so bad. I would love to see what they made from it. What an honor to have one of those toys.
Thanks for sharing.
take care,
Dawn

Oh, I loved seeing this tree!!!
Hi!
It was on my blog that you saw it. Thanks for your visit and Merry Christmas.
Beautful! I'd love to see Italy after Christmas --it must be so lovely!
Hugs, Pat
OK...I saw the picture before I saw the headline/text, and the "buon natale" posters below the tree, and I thought, "WOW! Diane *really* goes all out with the trees in her yard!" Hahahaha! It makes much more sense that this lovely tree is at the Vatican and not your backyard (not that you're not capable. ;-)
I can't imagine how lovely Italy at Christmastime must be! You lucky lady.
That's fantastic, Diane!
Bella :)
