Family Legacy

Deborah of Pictures Pots and Pens is hosting Family Fotos. Please stop by her blog to see the bloggers participating!

This picture is one of my dad and his two brothers. If my dad was still living, he would have been 82 today! He was born on January 23, 1927. We lost him two years ago in December of 2006. Can you look at the faces and guess which one he is?

He is the one in yellow standing on the bottom step. I can see the family resemblance in his face! His mother, my grandmother, died on his birthday January 23, 1955. Although I don't think I have much memory of her, I well remember the day that she died and how distraught he was.

This picture is one of my favorites. Although I didn't know my paternal grandmother well, I think I may have inherited her love of pictures! We have lots of pictures of my daddy as a young child. She must have been a very determined lady to get these three active little boys all dressed up and arrange for a photographer to come to their home to make this photograph.

We have so much technology available to us! I wonder sometimes what she and my other grandmother would think of a blog and computers! Can you imagine how many pictures we would have if there had been digital photography back then?

I don't think my dad would have been impressed! LOL

Thanks for stopping by,

Diane,

I LOVE looking at old photographs...the clothes people wore and the looks on their faces. The photo you shared is wonderful! Be thankful that you have pictures of your dad when he was younger...I'd give anything if I had some of my dad as a little boy! You really have quite a treasure!

Hi Diane...That is an amazing photo from your dad's youth...I marvel at how well dressed the boys are...I did choose the boy in yellow as your dad...he also looks to be the youngest. BTW, thanks for the calorie count on the yogurt pie...I bought the ingredients yesterday & will make it this wk-end. ;-) Bo

Morning Diane..what a sweet picture of your dad! I love seeing old pics like that of my family...there is a man who started a website about the little community where my mama & daddy lived as kids and when I went there and saw the pics of them with some of my aunts and uncles that have done gone on...ohhh my word girl it was so emotional I sat and just cried as I looked at them...I wish I had more pics of when my kids were little but back then all I could think of was just keeping them fed and clothed and loved! lol Have a great weekend dear friend!

Diane...The picture is just beautiful. I love how back in those days they added color to the portraits. Are they all redheads like your grandchildren??

Love the nostalgia, so romantic!!

How wonderful that you have these mementos. I don't have that, and feel a loss for not being able to look into someone's face in a photograph and finding some semblance of myself. But then again, some people have vast collections and lose them to natural disasters.

I love this old pictures and family history. I too guessed which one he was. It is a priceless picture. There is a resemblance as you said.
He and my mom were born the same year:) I am grateful I still have her, although I lost my own father too many years ago.

What a sweet picture & a perfect time to show it! I was guessing he was in blue! You're fortunate you are the family member that got to keep that one!

Thank you for sharing such a sweet picture. Your right, there would be tons more pictures today if digital would have been developed sooner.

Hi Diane
Lovely pictures. I had a lucky guess with that one. How sweet they all were in their smart clothes. Yes can you imagine all the nice pictures we could have had digital been around then.
Marc's mom is 93 now. About 6 years ago she started using a computer and she would send little emails. She had her own computer. Now she is in a senior's home and doesn't have access but she thought it was so grand! We loved it too.

have a lovely day

Love the photo Diane.
I also have a great picture of my mom and dad. The photographer "touch colored" it like yours.
Yes we would have so many to share if the technology was available like it is today. I take my camera everywhere I go.

What a wonderful picture to share and what a sweet story. I guessed the right one! I was really studying the photo and thought now matter how "techie" we get with our cameras we will never have photos are artful as this one. I love the colored cheeks and the subtle coloring of their clothes. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Diane
What a wonderful photo and I do see the family resemblance in Cooper.

I have very few photos of my parents as children, and even less of my grandparents in their lifetimes. We certainly are lucky these days to be able to take so many!

Have a good weekend
Hugs, Pat

Diane, what a sweet tribute to your dad on his birthday ... That's a precious picture of him and his brothers.

I know you miss your dad, especially on days like today.

Boy Diane, I can definitely see the family resemblance. I picked your dad right away. Your grandsons look like him so much. You know back then photos were not an everyday thing. You are right about the work of dressing up three little boys and their outfits are so adorable. These were hand colored too. love your photo today.

Hugs...Jeanne

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Since we are a military family and move all over the place, quite frequently, I thought it would be a good way for our family and friends to keep up with us. Glad you liked the post about Mom. I will add your blog to mine so I can keep up with you and your family. The picture of your Dad is priceless. Take care and keep in touch!

Such a great photo! While I'm happy for the convenience of digital, there just aren't as many great photos as this anymore.

And...the man of the shore house's birthday is Jan. 23! So, clearly your dad was extra special wonderful. ;-)
