Star Spangled Pony

Happy 4th everyone! No new post today..I'm just updating this one! Hope everyone has a relaxing and happy holiday
Kari and Kijsa are hosting a Fabulous Flag Flying Fourth blogging event. Well, this is not a flag...but it has some of the characteristics of a flag! It is red, white, and blue and reminds me of our flag. This carousel horse is appropriately named Star Spangled Pony. He was created by artist Debra Williamson Ruleau.

He can be seen in front of the Lauderdale County Courthouse in Meridian MS.

Debra states in the book Carousels Abound about her creation: "When I set out to design Star-Spangled Pony, a patriotic theme was just one of several I was considering. But when the tragedy of September 11th happened, my decision was made for me."

These carousel horses can be found all through our town. They are part of a public arts project to benefit Hope Village for Children, a home for disadvantaged children which was founded by Sela Ward from Meridian.

The inspiration for the project was the historic Dentzel Carousel which is located in Highland Park in Meridian.

I think this horse captures the spirit of patriotism! Everytime I see it, I am reminded of our flag and what it stands for. The horse stands proudly in a prominent place in Meridan and is viewed by local citizens and tourists every day from all walks of life.
Thank you for stopping by! You can view other Fabulous Flag Flying Fourth posts at http://kariandkijsa.blogspot.com/
Thanks girls for hosting this blogging event!

The pony is great! It reminds me of the whales that are painted and located across the Cape. I think when I was in Boston (I don't travel much LOL!) they had painted cows throughout the city.

Thanks for sharing the patriotic pony!

take care,
Dawn

How beautiful, Diane! I love carousel horses of all kinds (it was my favorite ride in Coney Island when I was a child, and sadly they aren't there any longer).

This one looks so wonderful painted in red white and blue!

I joined K&K's "Fabulous Flag Flying Fourth" too --but it will post tomorrow :-)

Happy 4th of July to you and your family!

I love this concept. In

Happy 4th of July, Diane!

I'll be going into my husband's office building in lower Manhattan to watch the Macy's firework show from his office conference room windows! Good view and no crowds.

Such a proud looking pony that would be worthy a carrying "Yankee Doodle" himself!

I would love for you to join me in my Friday's Favorite Family Foto! I hope to do it each Friday...unless I'm out of town, in which case, you all can just carry on without me!

Hope to hear from you before next Friday to let me know that you will be posting your family foto!

Hugs,
Deborah

Oh, I love that blue pony. I have alsways loved them but in the house I am in now, I don't have room for one. I tole painted one and did a little fabric on one, one time. I miss mine.

I was on your blog the other day and I adored the pony. I think I couldn't post my comment. I am trying again. I borrowed your post header title on my post a couple days ago. I love your title because it fits on so many things.

Hope you had a happy fourth.
