Rhoda at Southern Hospitality is hosting a blogging event! Everyone is posting their favorite garage sale, estate sale or auction findings.
That is hard, because I like lots of what I've bought. (I admit to a few mistakes too!) So, I thought I would do a theme post on rugs. I always check out the rugs at garage sales. I think they add lots of warmth to a room.
Here are a few of the rugs in my house....all from garage sales!
This zebra print rug is a new addition this week. My daughter, Kelli, is having a garage sale this weekend and did not use this rug in her new home. So, being her mother I had the privelege of looking through her stuff first. She only wants $10 for this 100% wool rug! It is in our bonus room in front of a daybed with a leopard print cover.

This small leopard print rug is in a half bath. We have leopard print on a border, mirror and window treatment. My mother actually bought this rug at a yard sale, and let me have it! I'm still thinking of painting the cabinet black...one of my many undone projects.
This is another little rug from another of my daughter's garage sales. It is in the kitchen/breakfast room in a high traffic area. I may have to throw it out soon...it has been washed so much that the rubber backing is coming off. I really like it and will hate to see it go.
If you've been visiting my blog, you might remember this rug from a post made a couple of weeks ago. It had ivory colored fringe which I cut off as some of you suggested. The rug fits in the color scheme of the dining room as you can tell from the upholstery on the chairs. It cost $25. Before I show you the last rug, I want to show you a before picture. When we bought our house, the living/dining room had carpet. The carpet was pretty dirty, worn, and old. We put in hardwood floors throughout the area as soon as we could afford it. This is a picture of the floor covering before. Just overlook the baby and dog, at one time I didn't take a picture of anything but babies, kids, and dogs.

We were lucky enough to be one of the first at the sale where I bought this rug below. A young couple were either redecorating or relocating and I found this almost new Shaw rug for $50. I looked up the rug on the Internet and it is still available for $600! In fact, I did order another smaller one for the foot of the stairs.
Here's a larger picture of the rug with the sofa in the background. I was so happy to get a bargain on a rug since we had just spent a large amount of money on the hardwood floors! I think a coffee table would really set the rug off. Maybe I'll find one at a garage sale soon. One I could paint of course. Black would look good wouldn't it?
Thanks so much for looking at my garage sale rugs. With so little invested in them, I won't feel bad about replacing any of them if I run across something I like better!
I'm exciting about visiting all the other blogs. Thanks Rhoda for hosting this event! Click here to go back to Rhoda's site for lots of bargains others have found.

Hi Diane, I tried to leave you a comment, but blogger was down a few minutes ago! I love the zebra and leopard print rugs! You know I simply adore animal prints! :)

NO! I seriously want that zebra rug...I really have been looking at them for my foyer. I may have to break down & buy one. That is SO pretty! You've found some great rugs, Diane. Me too, I have some neat rugs too from YS's.

You got me looking for rugs now!!
Gorgeous finds!
I really, really love the Shaw rug! And your rug in the dining room is perfect! The little leopard print rug is my favorite I think! Hope you had a great day!
Kim
The verrrrry expensive Horchow Catalog online says that zebra is the next big thing! You did very well indeed!
You have found some FABULOUS rugs at your yard sales!!! Just BEAUTIFUL!!!
The last rug was a steal! I rarely come across rugs hunting for bargains. I wish I did. All of yours are VERY nice!
That $50 Shaw rug is the bees' knees. Great deal, and I love the colors. Totally my style!
All your rugs are beautiful and even better from Yard sales! Fantastic finds.
Oh what great rugs!!! I love the zebra rug!it would go great with my leopard! Jen R
Wow, you've found some really nice rugs and in really great shape! I've never bought a second hand rug because the ones I see are so stained. You must live around cleaner neighbors than I do (hee hee).
I love garage sales, but I don't get to see many. I work at the beauty shop onm Fri. and Sat.. The good stuff is out early and I am at the shop at 6;30 Boo Hoo! Kathy
You got some great rugs and fantastic deals. I love a good find especially one you weren't expecting.

What amazing finds Diane!
Aw, I still had to pause and look at the sweet baby and dog, they're so cute together.
What a deal on that gorgeous shaw rug! And your wood floors are so yummy too!
WOW, you are a great yard sale shopper. I remember that rug with the fringe. It looks great cut off and in your dining room. We ripped up all of the carpeting and refinished the hardwood floors underneath.
take care,
Dawn
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. Your rug finds are terrific. I'm sorry to say that most yard/garage sales around here would never have such treasures. I love the Shaw area rug and such a deal!
I have been able to find some very affordable Oriental and hook rugs at my favorite auction in the past two years. I definitely will pay closer attention to the available rugs at today's auction since I have visited your blog before I get there!
Diane, I am out of town and my blog visiting has been limited. We will be home on Sunday. I.m going to visit Beverly, Mary, Vanessa, and Deborah on Sat. for lunch. wish you were here too.
Now for your great collection of rugs. I love them all and the cost was a bonus buy. The last one really grabbed me. It is beautiful and a true great find. It is so nice that you found a small matching rug too. I love your decor. Remember, we are all waiting for the inside tour of your lovely home.
Love and hugs, Jeanne
PS. Could that be Connor with that bit of red hair? Adorable!
I loove those rugs! The animal prints are yummy, and the large Shaw rug is just beautiful! What great finds!
Hi Diane,
This party of Rhoda's is so fun. I love your Shaw rug that you got for you living room. Perfect color and what a bargin. We need to replace the carpet, that looks just like yours did, soon and would like to put in wood floors too. Yours look great.
It has been nice meeting you and seeing your great finds.
Hugs,
Sue
I heart those beautiful rugs! You have such a great blog. Thank you for visiting my house tour. I will visit your page often...for sure.
Smiles ~ Ramona
I love that pear one, too, it's sweet and the dining room one, too, love it :)
I don't have a coffee table in our living room either...but that is because of my kids...kids and coffee tables just don't mix, I have found out the hard way :( I want to get a big old leather ottoman type of thing for this room. I do have coffee tables in the other 2 areas of the house that have sofas...but we don't hang out in those rooms...what a waste of space...next house will be much smaller!
Bella :)
Wonderful rugs Diane! I especially like the living room Shaw rug!
Hugs, Pat
OOOOH I want the zebra rug.....I have no idea where I'd put it but I so want something in zebra. BJ got me addicted to zebra and I've been dying to add something ever since. Great Bargains!
What a great deal you got on all your rugs! My kinda girl!
~Angie
Diane, you have a wonderful collection of rugs. WOW!
Hi Diane,
Oh I love your rugs! -Cheers, Amy
Great rugs, Diane! I need to take that approach. I loved the new wood floor you installed---in the "olden" days all we wanted was "wall to wall" carpet, but now we know how much easier hardwood/tile is to maintain and keep clean! Our new home has hardwood everywhere except the bedrooms and I love it (well, we have tile in the baths). Interesting post.
Love those rugs girl...you make me want to get hardwood floors!
Hi Diane! You've certainly found some beautiful rugs. Wish I could be so lucky!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Hi Diane :)
Call me impressed! Rugs are so expensive. Great finds... all of them :)
rue
Love the animal prints rugs! Thanks for sharing.
I love every single one of your rugs. It was very hard for me to choose just ONE of my thrift store finds...we'll have to do more, for sure....
What great finds! I haven't ever found a nice rug at any discount!
Cara
Hi Diane. You find the most amazing items at sales. I need to go shopping with you! :)
Hey, Diane ...
I've never really noticed rugs at yard sales, but you can be sure I will from now on.
Your Shaw rug is beautiful and looks like it was made to go with your furniture, and I like the $25.00 rug in your dining room, too. The colors look so rich and cutting the fringe off really made a difference.
I can't wait to see what you find at the sales this weekend.
Sincerely,
Janie
Diane, I love all of your great rug finds. It was so fun seeing them all in one post.
Hey Diane,
I just love how rugs can bring in color and texture especially to those white or beige floors.
Hey, do you have another blog? I'm just dying to know what "take it off" is about?
Brandee :-)
Hi Diane, Love your rug finds. The leopard and zebra are my favorite. Blessings, nancy
These rugs are great finds. You have a great eye.
Diane...
Such BARGAINS on all your rugs!! I love the SHAW rug...it would even fit in with the re-decorating I'm doing!! LOL!!
I'm glad there's someone else out there that LOVES black like I do. I don't see much of it here in Blogland!!
~Blessings,
Jan
You have some great rugs!! They add so much to a home!
I love every single one of these rugs. I was disappointed when the pictures came to an end! :)
I love ALL the rugs, especially the Zebra one. I love yardsales too!
You really did find some great rugs at sales! I love the Shaw. Kathy
I enjoyed seeing your bargains but my first thought was why would your daughter charge you for the rug she doesn't want.
Our new house has a jungle theme in one of the bedrooms. Not my thing at all. Luckily, it is just the border around the top and middle of the room so I can change it.
Mama Bear
What wonderful finds.
Thanks for sharing and have a lovely weekend.
Your rug collection is nice Diane. I went to an estate sale this morning. Got there early, they did not start til 9. Came back 8:55 they were already open, covered up and the rugs were being rolled up. Already purchased! LOL.
Is Kimba your DD? That bird cage and some things you painted black with your DD was on her web site....
They're all very nice, but that runner one with the flowers is my favourite. Is there any way you could replace the backing? Maybe you could sew some fabric on the back and use it as a table runner!
Pretty! I really like the last one.
Love the rugs! The Shaw is my fav but the animal prints are awesome too!
