Cameos-Pink Saturday

Do you like cameos? I really haven't ever been that fond of them! I don't have one and have always thought they were kind of old fashioned. But after touring the Cellini Cameo and Coral Factory in Pompeii, Italy and seeing how hand carved cameos are made, they've grown on me!

Thanks for stopping in! Please visit Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for other Pink Saturday participants!
Thank you Beverly for hosting Pink Saturday.

Hi Diane, I have to say that my feelings about cameos are a lot like yours, but when I think of them as miniature works of art, I do like them because there's such detail and an old-fashioned feel to them.

I have a cameo that is a piece of costume jewelry. I never wear it though. I think of it as something for older women to wear. The funny thing is I am getting to be one of those "older" women! For some reason I never thought of them as carved. I guess I thought there were just poured into a mold.

take care,
Dawn

Hi Diane,
I have a cameo that is reallly old. It was given to my mom from a lady who survived the San Frans. Earthquake in the early 1900's. I don't know for sure how old it is, but I know I am very old :) and I was a little bitty girl when the lady gave the pin to her. I, personally, am not a fan of cameos either, but I treasure this one because of the great history attached to it.
Happy PSat. L, dana

My mother wore a cameo-type of brooch, only it was a miniature painting of a lady in profile framed in gold under glass.

Diane, I love cameos but when I was young I associated them too much with grandma-wear.

I am always amazed at the handiwork that goes into them.

Hi, Diane... I bet this was a fun tour! I have an antique coral cameo my father gave me for my sixteenth birthday. It is stunning. He had given one of my sisters my grandmother's cameo, so when I wanted one years later, he set out to find the perfect ring. He bought it from an antique dealer in Asheville, NC. Her father had given it to her for her as a young girl. It's very, very special to me because of the giver (and also the lady's story), and the carving is amazing.

Happy Pink Saturday!

Hi Diane! I love cameos! I had the most beautiful one and a few years ago all my jewelry was stolen. I was heart broken and Mr. Precious bought me another one! We've been to Pompeii - toured the city but didn't see the cameo factory.

Be a sweetie,
shelia ;)

I've ALWAYS loved cameos! When I was 18, working at a large department store...I bought one, had it many, many years...then it disappeared and I've NEVER had another one.

I keep looking when we are antiquing...but nothing yet.

There is simply something about Cameo's... They have an elegance to them and make me feel as though they are a tribute to women!
Love it! Nanette

You know, I have 3 of them I've picked up at thrift stores, but have never worn... just not sure what or how to put them together with an outfit. I'd rather wear vintage rhinestones, but yet I still buy the cameos when I find them, lol!

I, too am not a fan of cameos as jewelry for myself. They are too dainty and girly. But I can definitely appreciate the workmanship and artistry involved. I have one from my grandmother.
